1. Increase our understanding and appreciation

We can contribute connections to stories, books, films, reports, and opportunities to explore, experience, and contribute  to increasing our understanding and appreciation of our heritage and our heritage resources.

We can keep our communities informed about opportunities to explore, experience, and learn about our heritage and heritage resources and of opportunities to contribute to preserving and increasing the contribution of our resources to our community.

2. Connect our heritage community contributors

We can identify and invite our heritage community contributors to contribute their points of view on why heritage matters and to tell their stories about what they are doing and how they are contributing to our heritage community interests to give our community the opportunity and ability to explore opportunities for creative relationships, creative leadership, and creative community enterprise around ideas and enterprises which contribute to our common interests and common enterprise.

Our Vancouver Heritage Community are enterprises contributing to our community interests, communities of interest who benefit from our heritage resources, and members of our community who have an appreciation of the contribution of our heritage resources to the character, culture, and experience of our communities of place and to our ability to connect our community to our history and our heritage and the contributions to how we got here and their potential contribution to imagining where we could go and what we could create and contribute as our heritage to our future

3. Identify our heritage resources

We can identify and curate our heritage resources, – the homes, buildings, streetscapes, and special features of our neighbourhoods, – and how they connect us to our history and contribute to our experience, our appreciation, and the character of our neighbourhoods and our communities.

We can identify heritage resources we are at risk of losing and explore ideas and opportunities we could pursue to reduce the possibility of losing our resource. Granville Street, West End Heritage Housing

We can contribute our recommendations for heritage places we think should be added to the Vancouver Heritage Register.

We can curate our heritage resources as a creative community project creating opportunities for community leaders like Heritage Vancouver, the Community Arts Council, the Business Improvement Associations, and Tourism Vancouver to contribute and creating opportunities for contributors in our arts, academic, business, professional, education, tourism, and cultural communities to explore which could contribute to their interests or the interests of their communities.

4. Contribute our stories and ideas

We could contribute our stories about the history of our heritage places and how they contribute to enriching the character of our neighbourhood.

Invite the community to explore and write stories of the historic significance of heritage resources to our community to contribute to our appreciation and understanding of the contribution and value of our heritage resources, and increase our interest in creating a future for our heritage.

We could explore ideas and opportunities which could contribute to our community interests.

What could our city government do to ensure the future of our heritage buildings? What could we do as a community to contribute to ensure the future of our heritage buildings?

5. Gather what we know

We can gather and organize what we know which would contribute to our knowledge and increase our understanding of where we are now to explore for ideas, connections, and opportunities which could contribute to improving our ability to more successfully pursue our community interests.

 

6. Explore what we can learn from our experiences

Explore our past experiences in preserving and losing our heritage resources and what we can learn and what we could do to improve our ability to more successful in the future

We can tell, explore, and learn from stories where heritage resources at risk were successfully protected and preserved to increase their contribution to our community.

We can tell, explore, and learn from stories of heritage resources at risk which we lost.

7. Explore ideas from other communities

Explore the systems we currently have and the systems and ways of doing things that other communities are creating and pursuing for ideas for creative conversation and possibilities and opportunities we could pursue as a community to protect, preserve, and increase the contribution of our heritage resources

We can explore stories of opportunities and stories of success.

 

9. Explore opportunities for creative community enterprise

We can explore opportunities for other communities of interest who benefit from our community enterprise with opportunities to contribute and contribute stories about creative contributions from and creative relationships with other community contributors.

For creative contributors

Explore opportunities for creative contribution for our arts and cultural communities.  The Push Festival and other creative contributors from our arts community have demonstrated creative ideas and created events which contribute to our heritage community interests.

Explore opportunities with the Vancouver Economic Development Commission to involve the Downtown Eastside community in telling stories about our heritage resources in Old Vancouver and the stories they tell about where we came from, how we got here, where we are now as a community, and what they could contribute to our community.

We can curate our heritage resources as a creative community project creating opportunities for community leaders like Heritage Vancouver, the Community Arts Council, the Business Improvement Associations, and Tourism Vancouver to contribute and creating opportunities for contributors in our arts, academic, business, professional, education, tourism, and cultural communities to explore which could contribute to their interests or the interests of their communities.

10.  Increase the contribution of our community

Explore the community interests and the communities of common interest who benefit from our heritage resources and explore ideas and opportunities to increase the contribution of our heritage resources to those interests.

Everyone has the ability to contribute to our ability to explore our heritage resources. We are creating connections for people in our community who are contributing and increasing their contribution and ability to contribute, – networking anyone?

Explore ideas with Tourism Vancouver to attract attention to and increase our attractiveness as a creative city by creating opportunities for enterprises in our hospitality and visitor attraction communities to identify heritage experiences and heritage learning opportunities for visitors and residents of our community.

Explore where, what, and how we could leverage our contributions as a heritage community, and our resources, our contributors, and our connections, and relationships with other community interests to increase our contribution as a community to our urban, community, cultural, and social evolution.

Explore roles for Heritage Vancouver, for the Community Arts Council, for the Alliance for Arts and Culture and other community contributors who have a declared interest in heritage and how their communities of creative contributors, and the communities of interests they represent, and their resources and community relationships could contribute to our common enterprise as a creative community.
